LARAMIE, Wyo. -
When it comes to playmakers in the 2000s, the names of Devin Moore and Jovon Bouknight come to mind - for good reason. Moore and Bouknight were two of the most talented and productive Cowboys to don the Brown and Gold in any decade of Cowboy football.
From 2002-05, Bouknight was a focal point of the UW offense. He is the UW leader in all-purpose yardage (5,921) and average yards per game with 126. He remains the UW all-time leader with at least one reception in 47-straight games. He finished his career with 3,626 yards, No. 3 in UW history. He is second in career receptions (250) and third in career TD grabs with 29. He has the sixth- and eighth-best single-season receiving yards performances in 2005 and 2004, respectively. He is fifth on the single-game receptions list, with 14 catches for 143 versus San Diego State in 2005. But the coaches wanted to find ways to get him the ball in space, so he returned kickoffs from 2002-05, and is the all-time leader in returns (87) and yardage (2,016).
From 2005-08, Moore became the program's most productive tailback and kick returner. He set the all-time rushing yardage mark in his last game as a senior, and finished his career with 2,963 yards on the ground. In 2008 as a senior, he rushed for 1,301 yards, No. 3 on the single-season yards list. His performance against San Diego State in the same season put him third on the single-game yardage list, when he rushed for 234 yards on 24 carries with three touchdowns. Moore made an impact on special teams, too. His kickoff return for a TD in 2007 is the most recent kickoff return TD for the Cowboys. He set the single-season all-purpose yardage mark in 2008 with 2,008 yards from rushing , receiving and kickoff returns. He averaged 167.3 yards per game in 2008, tops in UW history.
About the #120CowboyTough Countdown
The 2013 season will mark the 120th anniversary of Wyoming Cowboy Football. To commemorate that anniversary, we will be counting down some of the great memories and moments from Wyoming football history over the next eight weeks leading up to the Cowboys' season opener at Nebraska on Aug. 31.
The 2013 "Countdown to Kickoff" will take Wyoming fans through Cowboy Football history chronologically. The first week will highlight some of the memorable moments from the period from the first season in 1893 through the 1940s. Then each successive week, the countdown will recall great moments from the 1950s, `60s, 70s, 80, 90s, 2000s and the current decade.
Our countdown will only touch on some of the greatest moments, but we encourage you, the Wyoming fans, to share your favorite memories through the official University of Wyoming Athletics Twitter (@wyoathletics) and Facebook pages (Wyoming Cowboys). Fans are encouraged to use #120CowboyTough when sharing their memories.
Enjoy the countdown, and we look forward to seeing you in War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 7 for the home opener versus the Idaho Vandals.
