Cowboys Kick Off A New Millennium of Football With Appearance on ESPN: TheWyoming Cowboys will begin a new millennium of football in style as theykick off the 2000 football season on ESPN, Thursday, Aug. 31. The national telecast will feature ESPN College Footballcommentators Mike Tirico (play-by-play), Lee Corso (color analyst) and KirkHerbstreit (color analyst).

ESPN3: No, it's not a new network, it's the number of times theWyoming Cowboys will appear on ESPN's Thursday Night Game.Wyoming will make three appearances on ESPN's national Thursdaynight telecast -- at Auburn on Aug. 31, at Brigham Young on Oct. 26and at Colorado State on Nov. 16.

Senior Al Rich Moved from Safety Position to Running Back: Al Rich, asenior from Colorado Springs, Colo., who played safety his previous threeseasons at Wyoming, was switched to running back during 2000 fall drills. Rich was a First Team All-Conference free safety as a sophomore in1998. He began his junior season in 1999 as one of 37 defensive backsnationally to be named to the Jim Thorpe Award watch list. Rich playedstrong safety for the Cowboys in '99, and despite being hampered withshoulder and wrist injuries, he started all 11 games and ranked fourth intackles for the Cowboys with 75 total tackles for the '99 season. An extremely talented athlete, Rich is not totally unfamiliar withplaying running back. As a prep star at Mitchell High School in ColoradoSprings, Rich ran for over 1,500 yards as a high school senior. Rich has run a 4.41 forty-yard dash while at Wyoming. In highschool, he was also an outstanding track athlete, placing in the top threein the state of Colorado in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meterhurdles.. He will team with former high-school teammate Jay Stoner, Wyoming'ssenior quarterback in the Cowboy backfield.
