LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming Cowboys, coming off a 2004 season that ended with a victory over UCLA in the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl, will travel to Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday to open their 2005 season against the Florida Gators.
Both the Cowboys and Gators enter their season opener having received national recognition in preseason polls. The highest preseason ranking for each squad came in Sports Illustrated's 2005 College Football edition. Wyoming was ranked No. 25 by SI, while Florida was ranked No. 3. The Gators enter the season also ranked No. 10 by Associated Press and No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches' Poll. Wyoming is receiving votes in both the AP and USA Today polls.
It will be only the second time that Wyoming and Florida have met in football with the other meeting coming in 1951 when Florida defeated UW 13-0 in Gainesville.
Last year, Wyoming gained its first win over a Southeastern Conference school, defeating Ole Miss by a score of 37-32 in Laramie, Wyo. The 2005 season will mark the first time Wyoming will play two SEC schools in the same season, as Wyoming will travel to Oxford, Miss., on Sept. 24 for a rematch with the Rebels.
The Wyoming at Florida game is being televised by the University of Florida, and will be available in the state of Wyoming on ESPN GamePlan subscription service only. As with all Wyoming Football games, the Cowboy Sports Network will broadcast the game live on its 25-station radio network, with Dave Walsh describing the play-by-play action and Kevin McKinney adding color analysis. The pregame show begins one hour before kickoff.
This game this Saturday will air in Denver on KRKS AM 990.
The game is scheduled to kickoff at 4:00 p.m., Mountain Time (6:00 p.m., Eastern Time).
