Improvements to the War
As the only Division I football venue in the state, War Memorial Stadium is near and dear to the the hearts of Cowboy fans everywhere. But even with all its tradition, the stadium has received many upgrades since 2010 to make it a modern and cutting-edge facility.
The latest upgrade was a new playing surface. At a cost of $500,000, the FieldTurf Revolution playing surface was installed in the summer of 2013. A bold color scheme prominently featuring Brown and Gold around the field, the endzones feature `Wyoming' and `Cowboys' with inlaid images of Wyoming's iconic Teton Mountains. The new turf replaced the old surface on Jonah Field, installed in 2005.
The Wildcatter Stadium Club and Suites facility was completed in time for the 2010 football season. Twelve individual suites and 256 club-area seats allow Cowboy fans to watch the game in style on the upper east side of War Memorial Stadium. The exterior of the east side of the stadium features large, lighted lettering with the words `War Memorial Stadium' lit up in Brown and Gold, along with a Steamboat logo.
The Ford Stadium Lot, on the east side of War Memorial Stadium, was paved in the summer of 2011 to provide a higher quality gameday experience for fans. The paving project also included improved sidewalks, lighting and landscaping. A new parking area, the Summit View Lot, was added in 2011 and is located directly across 22nd Street to the east of the Ford Stadium Lot. The Summit View Lot provided an additional 1,000 parking spots for UW fans.
About the #120CowboyTough Countdown
The 2013 season will mark the 120th anniversary of Wyoming Cowboy Football. To commemorate that anniversary, we will be counting down some of the great memories and moments from Wyoming football history over the next eight weeks leading up to the Cowboys' season opener at Nebraska on Aug. 31.
The 2013 "Countdown to Kickoff" will take Wyoming fans through Cowboy Football history chronologically. The first week will highlight some of the memorable moments from the period from the first season in 1893 through the 1940s. Then each successive week, the countdown will recall great moments from the 1950s, `60s, 70s, 80, 90s, 2000s and the current decade.
Our countdown will only touch on some of the greatest moments, but we encourage you, the Wyoming fans, to share your favorite memories through the official University of Wyoming Athletics Twitter (@wyoathletics) and Facebook pages (Wyoming Cowboys). Fans are encouraged to use #120CowboyTough when sharing their memories.
Enjoy the countdown, and we look forward to seeing you in War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 7 for the home opener versus the Idaho Vandals.
