Sept. 1, 2009
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming Athletics Department is building for the future, and Wyoming fans will see dramatic changes in and around War Memorial Stadium when they attend Wyoming home football games in 2009.
For fans who haven't been to Laramie for a few months, the impressive Wildcatter Stadium Club & Suites structure is beginning to take shape atop the east stands of War Memorial Stadium. Completion is expected in late summer 2010.
Improvements for fans that have been completed for the 2009 season are the complete renovation of seating on the lower east side of the stadium and increased ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act) seating in those same east stands. The lower level was sandblasted, resurfaced and repainted during the spring and summer and handrails were installed. Additional ADA seating was also incorporated on the east lower level for the 2009 season.
This additional ADA seating continues the commitment of the University of Wyoming and the UW Athletics Department to better serve the needs of fans with disabilities. Prior to the 2008 season, additional ADA parking was added in parking areas surrounding War Memorial Stadium, including ADA accessible van parking in the Indoor Practice Facility (IPF) lot, just north of the new Indoor Practice Facility, and in the ADA Shuttle lot located at 20th and Garfield one block south of Grand Avenue between the former Laramie Athletic Club and the UW Office Annex.
Again this year, ADA accessible parking for automobiles is also available in lots AA, D, S, FA, H and HC, as well as the IPF lot and the ADA Shuttle lot. ADA accessible parking is free and is on a first-come, first-served basis. When ADA parking fills up at one location, parking attendants will be available to refer fans to other lots where ADA parking is still available. Two shuttle buses will transport fans from the ADA Shuttle lot to the stadium. The buses will run both pregame and postgame, dropping off and picking up fans at Gate 1 on the southwest corner of War Memorial Stadium.
The popular pregame tailgate parties will once again be held in Pepsi Tailgate Park located on the practice field at the south end of War Memorial Stadium. The events will continue to feature a fun, family atmosphere. This year a new oversized, portable video board will be located in tailgate park for the first four home games of 2009, allowing fans to watch other college football games from around the country prior to the Cowboys kicking off on Saturdays.
Fans will see new ticket cabins at three locations surrounding War Memorial Stadium. The main ticket sales location on the east side of the stadium has been replaced for the 2009 season with a ticket cabin in Warburton Plaza, just west of the Indoor Practice Facility. The Wyoming Player Pass will be located in a cabin at Gate 7 at the northeast corner of the stadium, and the Visiting Team Will Call will be located at Gate 2 on the south side of the stadium.
The Brown & Gold Outlet will once again feature Pistol Pete's Locker Room located inside War Memorial Stadium on game days. The store is located underneath the stands on the southwest corner of the stadium, providing Wyoming fans with a comfortable and convenient area to purchase their Cowboy gear.
The concession areas on the lower east side of the stadium won't be available during the 2009 season, but UW Concessions will sell drinks out of drink carts on the lower level. The concourse level concession areas will be open on the east side. Bathrooms on the lower east side will be available this season. The only bathroom that will be closed due to construction is on the northeast corner of the concourse level. All other bathrooms on the concourse level will be available. UW Athletics asks for your patience this season so that the future amenities in War Memorial Stadium may be enjoyed by fans for years to come.
Cowboy Joe Club permitted parking lots will open at 8 a.m. on game days and are open to tailgating activities. Those lots include the AA lot, IPF lot, H lot, Stadium lot, X lot and Brown lot.
Fans are reminded that tickets are still available for purchase through the UW Athletics Ticket Office. Tickets may be ordered online at www.wyomingathletics.com, or fans can call the ticket office at 800-922-9461 or 307-766-4850.
