Sept. 1, 2011
LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The 2011 football season will kick off for the Wyoming Cowboys on Saturday, Sept. 3 when they host the Weber State Wildcats in a game kicking off at 7 p.m. from War Memorial Stadium.
Fans will enjoy the benefits of expanded and enhanced parking when attending University of Wyoming Athletics' events this year. Among the biggest improvements will be: a newly-paved Ford Stadium Lot on the east side of War Memorial Stadium; the addition of a new parking area directly east of the Ford Stadium Lot across 22nd Street, where the Summit View Apartments previously stood; and the addition of new ADA (Americans With Disabilities Act) parking located closer to UW Athletics facilities.
The improvements are being made with the goals of providing more flexible and higher quality parking options for fans, providing more parking closer to UW Athletics facilities and enhancing the gameday atmosphere for fans.
More Flexible and Higher Quality Parking
The Ford Stadium Lot, on the east side of War Memorial Stadium, was paved this summer to provide a higher quality gameday experience for fans. The paving project also included improved sidewalks, lighting and landscaping.
The Ford Stadium Lot will be divided into two main areas for the football season -- the Stadium Preferred Lot in the west portion and the Stadium Lot in the east portion. The Stadium Preferred Lot will be available for Cowboy Joe Club members who donate at an annual level of $2,000 or above. The east side of the Stadium Lot will be available for Cowboy Joe Club members who donate at an annual level of $750 or above.
Both sections of the Ford Stadium Lot will also be permitted parking areas for the men's basketball and women's basketball seasons. During the basketball season, there will be no distinction between the two areas. Anyone with a Stadium parking permit will be able to park anywhere in the Ford Stadium Lot during the Cowboy and Cowgirl Basketball seasons.
While the Ford Stadium Lot will be permitted parking, there will be no assigned, named spots for permit holders as in the past. It will be a guaranteed reserved lot for permit holders, consistent with the IPF, H, X and Brown Lots. The Ford Stadium Lot will never be over-allocated.
Entrance into the Ford Stadium Lot before games will continue to be off of 22nd Street. When exiting after games, fans will exit onto 22nd Street and be directed south toward Grand Avenue.
Improved Tailgating Options and Tailgating Guidelines
One of the primary reasons the new parking plan was put into effect this year was to offer fans more flexibility for pregame activities on game days. It will allow friends who wish to tailgate together the flexibility to park close to one another rather than in predetermined parking spots.
Fans are asked to follow a few simple guidelines when tailgating:
1. If using a tent for tailgating don't drive stakes into the asphalt or landscaping areas.
2. Please be courteous to other fans by containing your tailgating activities to your parking spot and not impeding the flow of traffic in driving lanes.
3. Be aware of fire lanes in the Ford Stadium lot and keep all tailgaiting equipment and activities outside of the designated fire lanes.
4. All landscaping in the Ford Stadium Lot was recently completed, so please be careful not to damage the landscaping areas.
This year's Cowboy Walk, which occurs 2 hours and 35 minutes prior to kickoff of each home game, will be altered somewhat from previous years. The team will depart the Hilton Hotel and walk along the south edge of the Ford Stadium Lot. The Cowboys will enter Gate 3 on the southeast corner of War Memorial Stadium, and walk across Jonah Field (south to north), and go directly to the Rochelle Athletics Center. Wyoming's marching band "Western Thunder" and the cheer squad will lead the team into War Memorial Stadium.
More Parking Available Closer to UW Athletics Facilities
A new parking area, the Summit View Lot, has been added for the first time this year and will be located directly across 22nd Street to the east of the Ford Stadium Lot. The Summit View Lot will provide an estimated 1,000 extra parking spots for UW fans. The Summit View Lot will feature a surface covered with recycled asphalt. It will be a permitted lot for fans who receive a Brown Lot parking permit or an X Lot parking permit through their Cowboy Joe Club membership. The minimum Cowboy Joe Club contribution level to receive a Brown parking permit is $100 per year. Prior to games, entrance into the Summit View Lot from the south will be via Arrowhead Lane, which is the first street north of the Hilton Garden Inn and UW Conference Center. Entrance into the Summit View Lot from the north will be via Willett Drive. When exiting after games, fans will exit onto Willett Drive and will be directed east toward 30th Street.
Fans who have Brown parking permits will also be allowed to park in the Brown Lot (one block north of War Memorial Stadium on the west side of 22nd Street) and in the Cowboy Field Lot (one block east of War Memorial Stadium on Willett Drive). The Cowboy Field Lot will be a permitted parking area for the upcoming season.
Brown RV parking permits will also allow access into the Summit View Lot, Brown Lot and Cowboy Field Lot.
The X Lot will continue to be located one block north of the Arena-Auditorium on 19th Street near the Animal Science Building. Fans with X Lot parking permits may park in the X Lot or Summit View Lot.
Additional ADA Parking Provided Closer to UW Athletics Facilities
To better serve fans who desire ADA accessible parking, an ADA parking area has been added one block east of War Memorial Stadium at the west end of the Cowboy Field Lot on Willett Drive. That ADA parking area replaces a previous ADA parking area located two blocks south of War Memorial Stadium on 21st Street near the UW Annex Building, formerly the Mountain West Farm Bureau Building.
Existing ADA parking will continue to be available in the: AA Lot (east of the Arena-Auditorium); D Lot (south of War Memorial Fieldhouse); FA Lot (west of War Memorial Fieldhouse); H Lot (south of the American Heritage Center); IPF Lot (north of the Indoor Practice Facility); S Lot (west of the UW Law School); and X Lot (one block north of the Arena-Auditorium on 19th Street by the Animal Science Building).
Improved Shuttle Bus Services for ADA Patrons and General Fans Provided Free of Charge
A new shuttle bus service has been added from the Cowboy Field Lot beginning in the fall. During the football season, this shuttle will be designated specifically for ADA parking patrons and will drop fans off at Gate 8 on the northwest corner of War Memorial Stadium pregame. This shuttle will start two (2) hours prior to each home game. Postgame this ADA Shuttle will pick fans up at Gate 8 and return them to the Cowboy Field Lot.
During the football season, a second shuttle route will pick up fans at the intersection of 22nd Street and Willett, beginning three (3) hours prior to each home football game. It will also pick fans up at the Brown Lot (one block north of War Memorial Stadium) and drop all of those fans off at the southwest corner of War Memorial Stadium near Pepsi Tailgate Park. This shuttle will not run postgame.
During the Cowboy and Cowgirl Basketball seasons, the shuttle service from the Cowboy Field Lot will serve all UW fans parking at Cowboy Field and will also make a stop at the intersection of 22nd Street and Willett Drive to pick up fans. The basketball shuttle will drop fans off in the AA Lot, on the east side of the Arena-Auditorium. It will run pregame and postgame during the basketball season, beginning one (1) hour before each Cowboy and Cowgirl home basketball game.
All Shuttle Bus Services are provided free as a courtesy by UW Athletics. UW Athletics employs University of Wyoming TransPark (Transit and Parking Services) to provide the shuttle buses and drivers on gamedays.
Permitted Parking Lots Remaining the Same
Other permitted parking lots in which the access will continue to require the same parking permits as in past years are the: AA Lot (east of the Arena-Auditorium); D Lot (south of War Memorial Fieldhouse); FA Lot (west of War Memorial Fieldhouse); H Lot (south of the American Heritage Center); IPF Lot (north of the Indoor Practice Facility); S Lot (west of the UW Law School); and X Lot (one block north of the Arena-Auditorium on 19th Street by the Animal Science Building).
Free parking for UW fans will be available within four blocks of War Memorial Stadium and the Arena-Auditorium. The free parking will be located at: the Aragon Lot, two blocks north of War Memorial Stadium on the east side of 22nd Street (north of the Aragon Softball Complex); the UW Annex Lot, two blocks south of War Memorial Stadium on 21st Street (formerly the Mountain West Farm Bureau Building); and the Long-Term Parking Lot, four blocks east of War Memorial Stadium (east of the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex and on the west side of 30th Street).
Alcohol-Permissible, Open-Container Parking Lots (For home Football games only)
Alcohol-permissible, open-container parking lots will once again be available this season for tailgating prior to home football games only. The Ford Stadium Lot and Summit View Lot will both allow open containers for alcoholic beverages. The other designated open-container permissible lots are the AA Lot, Brown Lot, Cowboy Field Lot, H Lot, IPF Lot and X Lot.
For games beginning prior to 4 p.m., open containers will be allowed from 8 a.m. until halftime of the game. For games beginning at 4 p.m. or later, open containers will be allowed from noon until halftime of the game.
Pepsi Tailgate Park
Pepsi Tailgate Park will again be located on the southwest corner of War Memorial Stadium. In connection with the paving of the Ford Stadium Lot this summer, the Pepsi Tailgate Park area was re-sodded this summer and is ready for the start of the 2011 season. For all games other than the Nebraska game, Pepsi Tailgate Park will open 2 hours and 30 minutes prior to kickoff and will close 30 minutes prior to kickoff. There will be extended hours for the Nebraska game that will be announced prior to that weekend.Parking and Ticketing Information
