The 1,000th Game in Wyoming Football History To be Played This Saturday vs. Air Force

The Wyoming Cowboy Football program will play its 1,000th game on Sept. 6, 2008, when the Air Force Falcons travel to Laramie to face the Wyoming Cowboys.

The Cowboys have played 467 home games, 518 road games and 14 neutral-site games throughout their 112-year history for a total of 999 games.

It has always been a hard-fought series between the Cowboys and Falcons. Wyoming Cowboys will be playing Air Force for the 47th time on Saturday.

UW trails by three games in the overall series, with 20 wins to 23 losses. There have been three ties in the series.

Since the two Front Range rivals helped found the Mountain West Conference in 1999, the series has been even closer. Air Force holds a one-game advantage in the MWC series. Wyoming has won four previous MWC meetings -- Air Force five.

The 2008 season marks the 10th season of the Mountain West Conference, and this Saturday's Wyoming-Air Force contest is the first conference game of the year for the Wyoming Cowboys.

Wyoming is 4-5 (.444) in Mountain West Conference openers. UW is 2-2 (.500) when opening MWC play at home, and is 2-3 (.400) when opening conference play on the road.

This week's MWC opener with Air Force will mark the fifth time in the 10 seasons of the MWC that the Cowboys have opened Mountain West Conference play against the Falcons.

The most important number of last Saturday's opening-day victory over Ohio was the fact that it snapped a four-game losing streak for the Cowboys that dated back to Nov. 3, 2007, when Wyoming lost at San Diego State by a score of 24-27. Wyoming's most recent win prior to the Ohio victory was a 29-24 home win over UNLV on Oct. 27, 2007.

Saturday's 47th meeting between the Wyoming Cowboys and Air Force Falcons will be televised live by CBS College Sports (CBS C) at 1:30 p.m., Mountan TIme. Tom Hart will describe the play-by-play action. He will be joined by color analyst Trev Alberts.

The Cowboy Sports Network radio broadcast of Saturday's game will begin one hour before kickoff (12:30 p.m.), with Dave Walsh bringing the play-by-play call of the game to Wyoming fans for his 25th season. Kevin McKinney will join Walsh as color analyst, and Randy Welniak will serve as the sideline reporter. All Cowboy games are carried on the 27 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network.
