Cowboy junior wide receiver Robert Herron has been recognized by College Football Performance Awards as this week's National Wide Receiver of the Week. Herron caught five passes for a career high 173 yards and tied a personal high with two touchdown receptions versus Texas in the Cowboys' 2012 season opener. His first TD reception of the day was an 82-yard reception on an out pattern that saw Herron break a tackle and out-run the Texas defenders to the end zone. Herron's previous career bests were 104 receiving yards and two TDs versus Weber State in 2011.
Herron shares this week's College Football Performance Award as the nation's top receiver with Austin Franklin of New Mexico State. Franklin had eight receptions for 236 receiving yards in a 49-19 win over Sacramento State.
Herron's Week 1 performance ranks him No. 4 in the nation in receiving yards this season. Franklin leads the nation in receiving yards.
Honorable Mention selections as College Football Performance Award's Wide Receiver of the Week were: Marqise Lee (USC), Conner Vernon (Duke), DeAndre Hopkins (Clemson), Brelan Chancellor (North Texas) and Byron Hankerson (FAU).
