LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head footballcoach Vic Koenning announced on Thursday that senior running back Al Richhas been lost for the remainder of the 2000 football season due to a wristinjury.

"Al (Rich) has been dealing with a painful wrist injury since lastseason," said Koenning. "He had surgery this past spring, but the surgerydidn't correct the problem. Al tried to play through this, but the painwas more than he anticipated. It has become intolerable for him, and he andhis parents decided that this was the best time for him to have anothersurgery to try and correct the problem.

"It wouldn't matter whether Al was a kicker, a running back or asafety, the pain was too severe. He is an outstanding young man, and wehope that he can return to the field in 2001."

Rich will be able to apply to the NCAA for a medical hardshipruling, which if granted would give him another year of eligibility. Thisis his fourth year at Wyoming, and he has never utilized a redshirt year.
