LAS VEGAS - Wyoming senior linebacker Jordan Stanton added another accolade for his stellar play after it was announced Wednesday he was named the SEVEN Magazine Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl Mountain West Player of the Week.
Stanton recorded 13 tackles, including nine solo stops, one sack, one tackle for a loss and a forced fumble to help lead Wyoming to a 17-13 come-from-behind victory over Air Force on Saturday. Stanton's sack came in the second quarter with Air Force on the Wyoming 46-yard line.
Early in the fourth quarter, with Air Force leading in the game 10-7, the Falcons went for a fourth-and-1 from their own 42-yard line. Falcon fullback Broam Hart appeared to have enough room to pick up the first down, but Stanton came up the middle to make a crushing hit to knock the ball loose and Wyoming defensive tackle Patrick Mertens recovered the fumble. Six plays later, Cowboy senior place-kicker Stuart Williams hit a 33-yard field goal to tie the game.
The honor comes on the heels of another, as Stanton earned a Defensive Player of the Week nod from the Mountain West on Monday.
