LARAMIE, Wyo. -
One of the nation's top defenses, in the Wyoming Cowboys, and one of the NCAA's top offenses, in the Boise State Broncos, will face each other on Saturday in War Memorial Stadium in Laramie. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1:30 p.m., Mountain Time.
The Cowboys enter Saturday's game ranked No. 4 in the nation in total defense, allowing opponents an average of only 167.5 yards per game. Boise State is averaging 43.5 points per game to rank No. 8 in the country in scoring offense.
The Broncos will be the second Western Athletic Conference school to play in War Memorial Stadium this season. Wyoming defeated Utah State of the WAC by a score of 38-7 in the season opener. Last week, the Pokes lost a heartbreaker at Virginia when the Cavaliers pulled out a 13-12 victory in overtime.
Boise State is 2-0 on the season, and hasn't been tested yet. BSU defeated NCAA I-AA member Sacramento State, 45-0, to open the season. Last week, Boise recorded a 42-14 victory over Oregon State of the Pacific-10 Conference. The Broncos are receiving votes in both the Associated Press media poll and the USA Today Coaches' Poll.
This week will mark the second consecutive week that the Cowboys have played a team that appeared in a bowl game a year ago. Virginia won the 2005 Music City Bowl over Minnesota by a 34-31 margin, while Boise State lost to Boston College in the 2005 MPC Computers Bowl in Boise, Idaho, by a score of 21-27.
Saturday's game will be televised by "the mtn." (Mountain West Sports Network). The majority of the state of Wyoming can see the game on Bresnan Cable's Digital Basic Package, Channel 412. An up-to-date listing of cable carriers for "the mtn." is listed in an attachment to this story.
The game will of course be broadcast on the 26 affiliates of the Cowboy Sports Network, beginning with the pregame show one hour prior to gametime.
