LARAMIE, Wyo. - Cowboy senior defensive lineman Josh Biezuns was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week by the Mountain West on Monday, Sept. 19 for his performance in a 28-27 win at Bowling Green on Sept. 17.
Biezuns forced one fumble, recovered one fumble, had 2.0 sacks for 15 yards and five total tackles against Bowling Green, but Biezuns' biggest play of the day came with only three seconds remaining in the game. Bowling Green had just scored a touchdown to pull within one point at 28-27. On the point-after-touchdown attempt, Biezuns combined with fellow senior defensive lineman Gabe Knapton to break through the middle of the BGSU line, block the PAT and preserve Wyoming's 28-27 road victory.
Biezuns forced fumble and fumble recovery came on the same play, as he was sacking Bowling Green quarterback Matt Schilz in the fourth quarter. He tore the ball out of Schilz's hands and then recovered the fumble. That turnover set up Wyoming's final touchdown of the game to put the Cowboys up 28-14 on way to its 28-27 road win.
He shares this week's award with San Diego State defensive back Larry Parker.
For Biezuns, it was the second Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honor of his career and the second in his last four games. He was also named MW Defensive Player of the Week in Wyoming's 2010 season finale win over Colorado State.
