Friday Event Celebrates UW Football History

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

"Salute to the All-American Cowboy," an event celebrating past and present Cowboy football, will be held Friday, Oct. 12, at the University of Wyoming American Heritage Center (AHC).

A panel discussion will begin at 2:30 p.m. with John Waggener, AHC associate archivist, who will give a short history of UW football. From 3-4:15 p.m., UW professor emeritus Pete Simpson will moderate a discussion among Paul Roach, former coach and UW athletics director, Ken Cook, former player and president of the Cowboy Joe Club, Galand Thaxton, career tackles leader for the Cowboys, and Dave Walsh, voice of the Cowboys for more than 20 years. Coach Joe Glenn will conclude the discussion.

Following the panel discussion, at 4:30 p.m., guests will be able to look at displays featuring Wyoming sports history, as well as other archival material including Charles Belden ranching photographs and Hopalong Cassidy memorabilia.

A tailgate party from 5-6:30 p.m. will conclude the event. Hub Whitt, a cowboy poet and singer, will perform.
