Jovon Bouknight (Wyoming), Jamaal Brimmer (UNLV), and Deric Yaussi (Wyoming) were named Mountain West Conference Players of the Week. Bouknight claims Offensive Player of the Week, Brimmer takes the Defensive honor, and Yaussi receives Special Teams recognition. Brimmer is honored for the third time in his career, while Yaussi collects his second career award. Bouknight is a first time honoree.
MWC Offensive Player of the Week
Jovon Bouknight, Wyoming, Wide Receiver, Junior
Bouknight had a season-high 87 yards on six receptions and a touchdown in Wyoming's 20-10 victory over San Diego State. His touchdown came at the 12:39 mark of the third quarter when quarterback Corey Bramlet tossed him a 29-yard pass to the back of the end zone that tied the game at 10 apiece.
MWC Defensive Player of the Week
Jamaal Brimmer, UNLV, Strong Safety, Senior
In a 24-20 Rebel victory at BYU, Brimmer recorded nine tackles (six solo), including one tackle for a loss of two yards. He also forced a fumble, posted a pass breakup and hauled in his first interception of the season. With BYU leading 10-3 in the third quarter, Brimmer picked-off BYU quarterback John Beck and returned it 24 yards to the Cougar 13-yard line. Later in the same quarter, Brimmer forced a fumble and after Rebel teammate Beau Bell picked up the ball, he lateraled the ball to Brimmer who continued down field and was credited with 10 fumble return yards.
MWC Special Teams Player of the Week
Deric Yaussi, Wyoming, Kicker, Junior
In Wyoming's 20-10 win over San Diego State, Yaussi accounted for eight points, including field goals from 38 and 42 yards. He gave the Cowboys a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and then put the Pokes up again 13-10 in the third quarter.
