This weekend is Homecoming on the University of Wyoming campus, and the Wyoming Cowboys will host the Utah Utes in a game to kickoff at 4 p.m. from Wyoming's War Memorial Stadium.

Wyoming has a 2-4 overall record and an 0-2 record in the Mountain West Conference this season. Utah comes to Laramie ranked No. 10 in the USA Today coaches' poll and No. 11 in the Associated Press media poll. The Utes are 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the MWC.

Saturday's meeting will be the 83rd overall meeting between the two longtime conference rivals. The first game between the two was played in 1904 when Utah won 23-0 in Laramie. Wyoming and Utah have been playing in the same conference uninterrupted since 1938. That means for the past 73 consecutive seasons, including this year, the Cowboys and Utes have been conference rivals. Wyoming and Utah were members of the Skyline Conference from 1938-61. Both schools moved on to be founding members of the Western Athletic Conference in 1962 where they remained through the 1998 season. In 1999, Wyoming and Utah helped found the Mountain West Conference. For Utah, this season will be its final one in the Mountain West before it begins competing in the Pacific-10 Conference in the fall of 2011. Following World War II, the two schools played each other for 50 consecutive seasons from 1946-1995. There was a two-year break in the series in 1996-97 due to the rotating divisions of the Western Athletic Conference before the two teams resumed play for the past 13 seasons. Wyoming trails in the overall series 31-50-1.

In Homecoming games, Wyoming has a .500 record, winning 41 times, losing 41 and tying three times. The Cowboys will be playing their 86th Homecoming game on Saturday and their 61st Homecoming game in War Memorial Stadium, where they have been much more successful, posting a 36-22-2 (.617) record in Homecoming contests. Four years ago in UW's 2006 Homecoming game, Wyoming defeated Utah 31-15. In 2008, the Utes returned to Laramie for another Homecoming contest and defeated the Pokes 40-7. Last year, Wyoming defeated New Mexico 37-13 on Homecoming Day 2009.

The Utah Utes will be the fourth Top 10 opponent that Wyoming has faced through the first seven games of this season. The other teams that Wyoming played when they were ranked in the Top 10 this season were : No. 3 Boise State, No. 4 Texas and No. 5 TCU.

Not only has Wyoming played some of the top teams in the national polls, but they've played some of the most highly-rated teams statistically in the nation this season. Entering this week, four of Wyoming's opponents were ranked among the Top 10 defensive teams in terms of total defense. TCU is ranked No. 1 in total defense, Boise State is No. 2, Texas is No. 6 and Utah is No. 10. Offensively, four Cowboy opponents are currently ranked among the Top 30 teams in the NCAA in terms of total offense. Boise State is No. 5 in total offense, TCU is No. 11, Air Force is No. 17 and Utah is No. 29.

Saturday's game will be televised live on The Mtn. beginning at 4 p.m. As with all Wyoming Cowboy Football games, Saturday's game will also be broadcast live on radio over the 25 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, beginning with the pregame show one-hour before kickoff, or 3 p.m. this Saturday.
