Wyoming's Knapton Named Defensive Player of the Week

LARAMIE, Wyo. - University of Wyoming senior defensive end Gabe Knapton has been named by CollegeSportsMadness.com as the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in a 41-14 home win over UNLV on Saturday, Oct. 15.

Knapton recorded 10 total tackles, including 1.0 sack for eight yards, while leading a Wyoming defense that allowed UNLV only 104 passing yards, only 258 yards of total offense and held the Rebels to only 14 points. Knapton keyed the Wyoming defense as they shut out UNLV in the second half and allowed the Rebels only 75 total yards in the second half.

His 10 tackles marked his first double-figure tackle game of the season, and the 14th double-figure tackle game of his career. He also moved into sole possession of eighth place on the Wyoming career tackle list with 325.

Knapton is currently tied for No. 4 in the Mountain West and No. 27 in the nation with 4.0 sacks this season. He also has 4.0 tackles for loss to rank No. 13 in the Mountain West. He is averaging 6.3 tackles per game, to rank second among all Mountain West defensive linemen and No. 14 in the MW among all players at all positions.
