Wyoming Place-kicker Wallum Named Second Team All-American by the <i>Football News</i>

University of Wyoming junior place-kicker Jarvis Wallum of Rapid City, S.D., has been named byFootball News as a Second Team All-American for the 2001 college football season.

Wallum is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation in field goals and leads the Mountain West Conference in that category, averaging 1.82field goals per game.

He tied a school single-season record this year, kicking 20 field goals. Wallum tied former Cowboy All-America place-kicker Cory Wedelfor the school record. Wedel made 20 field goals in the 1996 season when he also earned All-America honors.

On Oct. 30, 2001, Wallum was named one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Award. The Groza award is presented each year to thenation's top collegiate place-kicker. Now in its 10th year, it is named for NFL Hall-of-Fame kicker Lou Groza, who played 21 seasons with theCleveland Browns.

In this, his first season as the starting place-kicker for the Cowboys, Wallum connected on 87.0 percent of his field goals -- 20 of 23. Healso hit 94.4 percent of his extra points -- 17 of 18.

Wallum played his high school football at Stevens High School in Rapid City, S.D.

Travis Dorsch of Purdue earned First Team honors at place-kicker from the Football News, and Seth Marler of Tulane was named theThird Team honoree.
