LARAMIE, Wyo. - The postseason accolades continue to stream in for University of Wyoming freshman quarterback Brett Smith as Yahoo! Sports named him to their 2011 Second Team Freshman All-America team.
It was the second Freshman All-America team that Smith has been named to in the past week. He was named First Team Freshman All-American by CollegeFootballNews.com.
Smith helped lead Wyoming to an 8-4 record, 5-2 in the Mountain West where the Cowboys finished third behind TCU and Boise State.
Earlier in the week, Smith was named the 2011 Mountain West Freshman of the Year.
Smith, a native of Salem, Ore., leads all BCS freshmen in the nation in total offense this season with 3,140 yards with Wyoming's appearance in the 2011 Gildan New Mexico Bowl still to come on Dec. 17. Smith set a new Mountain West record for total offense by a freshman, shattering the previous Mountain West record of 2,691 yards set by TCU's Andy Dalton in 2007. His 3,140 yards of total offense is the fifth best single-season total in Wyoming school history. Smith has thrown for 2,495 yards in 2011, placing him third on the MW freshman list in passing yards. He needs an additional 168 passing yards to set a new Mountain West freshman record.
