Wyoming Linebacker Lucas Wacha Named Honorable Mention Freshman All-American by Campus Insiders/CollegeFootballNews.com

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming redshirt freshman linebacker Lucas Wacha was selected by Campus Insiders/CollegeFootballNews.com to its Freshman All-America Team on Thursday. Wacha earned Honorable Mention recognition on the All-Freshman Defensive team.

A native of Texarkana, Texas, Wacha ranked fifth on the Cowboy team this season with 88 total tackles. He averaged 7.3 tackles per game to rank No. 22 in the Mountain West Conference in tackles in his first season. Wacha also recovered two fumbles to tie for the team lead and rank No. 5 in the MW and No. 74 in the nation. He was credited with 2.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, one pass breakup and one forced fumble, while starting 11 of 12 games as a redshirt freshman.

Wacha recorded three double-figure tackles games during the 2013 season. His best game was a 13-tackle performance versus Colorado State. He also registered 11 tackles versus Idaho and had 10 tackles at Air Force.

The freshman was very consistent throughout the season as he had four other games with seven tackles -- versus New Mexico, Fresno State, Boise State and Hawai'i.
