LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming head football coach Craig Bohl announced on Sunday the signing of Josh Allen, a junior-college quarterback from Reedley College in Reedley, Calif., to a national letter of intent with the University of Wyoming football program.
Allen becomes the second mid-year signee for Cowboy Football, joining high school wide receiver Joseph Parker, who previously signed with the Cowboys. Allen will join the Cowboy Football program for the 2015 spring semester.
Josh Allen is a 6-5, 215-pound dual-threat quarterback, who just completed his freshman season at Reedley College in Reedley, Calif. He will come to Wyoming with three years of eligibility remaining. He also has a redshirt year available.
As a freshman at Reedley Community College, Allen led Reedley CC in both passing yards and rushing yards. He completed 127 of 259 pass attempts (.490) for 2,055 yards, 26 touchdowns and had only five passes intercepted in 10 games. Allen also rushed for 660 yards on 120 carries, averaged 5.5 yards per carry and scored 10 rushing TDs.
"The future really looks bright for Josh (Allen)," said Wyoming head coach Craig Bohl. "He is a guy who has really matured during his one year in junior college. He is a tall guy, who is putting on weight. He has a strong arm. He's got a great head for the game.
"Any time you are playing a pro-style offense like we run, you need a trigger man who can really make a difference, and we feel great about Josh's ability."
Allen led a Reedley offense that averaged 452.2 yards of total offense per game to rank No. 9 among all California junior-college teams in total offense. Reedley averaged 285.3 passing yards per game to rank No. 7 among all California JCs, scored 39.4 points per game to rank No. 10 in the state and averaged 166.9 yards rushing to rank 26th.
Individually, Allen's 26 touchdown passes tied him for No. 7 among all California junior-college quarterbacks in 2014. He also ranked 20th among California JUCO quarterbacks in passing yards as a freshman, and ranked 42nd in the state in rushing, averaging 66.0 yards per game.
He played for head coach Randy Whited at Reedley College. Allen played his high school football at Firebaugh High School in Firebaugh, Calif.
He was also recruited by Indiana and Eastern Michigan.
