Cowboys Conclude Action in Palm Desert

The University of Wyoming Cowboy golf team concluded action at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday, at The Classic Club golf course in Palm Desert, Calif. The Cowboys settled in sixth place with a score of 885 (+21). Cal Poly, who had the lowest score of the final day with an 878 (+14), finished in fifth, only seven strokes ahead of the Pokes.

“We know how competitive all these teams are,” Wyoming head coach Joe Jensen said. “I was happy with how we played this weekend. We will look to continue to improve as we get more into this spring season.”

Senior Kamrin Allen carded a tournament low for UW, shooting a 70 (-2) to end the tournament. He finished as the top Cowboy tied for 19th place. Sophomore Drew McCullough finished the tournament tied 26th after shooting a 77 on Sunday afternoon, which brought his total to 222 (+6). Junior Ryan Wallen recorded a 75 (+3) on Sunday to tie him for 35th. Quintin Pope shot a third-round mark of 74 (+2), and ended the tournament in 66th place. Following Pope, sophomore Glenn Workman rounded out the Wyoming lineup with a score of 73 (+1) on Sunday.

Sophomore Arron Lickteig and freshman John Murdock played as individuals. Lickteig improved his play on the last day, carding a 73 (+1) to finish 45th. Murdock notched a 77 (+5) on the final day to conclude his tournament.

Kansas totaled a score of 866 (+2) to take home the crown, just out shooting the Colorado Buffalos by three strokes. The bronze went home with the Texas Tech Red Raiders as they completed the three-day tournament at 870 (+6). Sean Walsh of Gonzaga won the individual championship award with a three-day total of 209 (-7).
