"Mike Mezei played a really nice round today," said Wyoming men'sgolf coach Roger Prenzlow. "He has been extremely consistent in his firstfour rounds this spring season. Mike was our top finisher in the firsttournament of the spring (finishing 35th at the Southern Mississippi BeauRivage Classic), and he's carried that over to this week. We aren't wherewe want to be in the team standings, but there are a number of teams groupedclosely together, and we still have two rounds to make a move. We had a fewmistakes, but all-in-all our guys hung in there and played pretty good. Wejust have to keep in mind that this is a 54-hole event. If we can come outand put up a good score tomorrow, we can get right back in the thick of thistournament."
Wyoming sophomore Kurt Kowaluk is tied for 59th at three-over par75. Three other Cowboys -- Jake Hunter, Kevin Kayden and Mike Urbatchka --all posted opening round scores of four-over par 76 to tie for 66th.
The John Burns Intercollegiate is being played at the Leleihua GolfCourse, which measures 6,917 yards and plays to a par of 72.
