The University of Wyoming men's golf team finished the last round of the Arizona National Invitational Tournament with a 924 (+60) on the Omni Tucson National - Catalina Course in Tucson, Ariz. Wyoming finished in 15th place in the 15-team field after a first round score of 310 (+22), a second round of 303 (+15) and a 311 (+23) for the third round.
"Overall there was more good than bad, we are a young team that is going to go through growing pains," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "Ryan played a solid tournament and the younger guys are getting in the experience to build a good foundation for when it counts towards the end of the year."
Wyoming's top finisher was sophomore Ryan Wallen after firing a 224 (+8). For the final round he shot a 75 (+3) and tied for 42nd place. Junior Kamrin Allen shot an 81 (+9) for the event with an overall tally of 231 (+15); he came in 67th place. Freshman Glenn Workman shot a 77 (+5) to move up a place from the second round tying at 78th. Freshman Drew McCullough turned in a 78 (+6) to shoot four strokes better than his second round. McCullough had a final of 238 (+21) tying for 78th place. Wrapping up the tournament for the Pokes is freshman Quintin Pope with a third round of 81 (+9) for a scorecard of 242 (+26).
California won the team title with a commanding lead and final score of 857 (-7). Iowa State's Scott Fernandez won the tournament with an impressive total of 205 (-11).
"For my team right now it is about getting in the experience and seeing these courses for the first time against some tough competition. We will have a break until April and then really get back into the swing of things with consistent tournaments," Jensen added.
The Cowboys return on April 2 for a three-day tournament at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.
