The Wyoming Cowboy golfers played the first two rounds of the Farms Invitational on Monday, in San Diego, Calif. UW finished the day in 13th place (637, +61) and senior Mike May had the best scoring day shooting a 157 (+13) to finish tied in 42nd place.

"This is a very demanding golf course and we got off to a poor start in the first round," Cowboy head coach Joe Jensen said. "It has been a slow start for us so far, but we are just now playing our second tournament of the spring and we don't quite have the experience and confidence yet to play this type of golf course. I do like to take the positives that we improved from the first to second rounds, but we still want to do better in tomorrow's final round."

The Cowboys shot a 322 (+34) in the first round of the tournament. May led Wyoming in scoring with a 77 (+5) in the first round. Senior Casey Ruff finished the first round with the next lowest score of 80 (+8). Eddie Stewart shot a first round 82 (+10) followed by junior Clinton Boutelle shot an 84 (+12). Redshirt freshman Jake Hedge rounded out the scoring for UW shooting a first round 84 (+12). Playing as an individual for the Cowboys Eric Parish shot a first round 81 (+9).

In the second round, the Pokes improved their play shooting a 314 (+26). May finished the day shooting an eight-over 80 finishing tied for 42nd place (157, +13). Boutelle improved his score 10 strokes between rounds shooting a 74 (+2). He finished the day in a tie for 45th place with a 36-hole total of 158 (+13). Ruff remained steady shooting an 80 (+8) in the second round to finish tied for 53rd place with a total score of 160 (+16). Redshirt sophomore Stewart also shot an 80 (+8) in the second round. He finished in a tie for 61st place with a two-round score of 162 (+18). Hedge was forced to withdraw from the second round due to injury. Parish improved his first-round score by three strokes shooting a 78 (+6). He finished tied for 49th place with a score of 159 (+15).

The Farms Invitational is being hosted by the University of San Diego and is being played at the Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The Farms is playing 6,947-yards and is a par 72.

Leading the 14-team field is San Diego State who shot a two-round score of 578 (+2). Saint Mary's College (California) is in second place with a score of 583 (+7), Missouri is third with a score of 595 (+19) UC Irvine shot a two-round total of 596 (+20) to finish fourth and SMU finished fifth with a score of 601 (+25).

In a field of 70 individuals, St. Marys' Anders Engell leads the scoring with a 36-hole score of 139 (-5). San Diego State's Alex Kang trails Engell by three strokes after shooting a 142 (-2). In third place is UTEP's Martin Simensen who shot a 143 (-1) and tied for fourth is UC Davis' Jonny Baxter and SDSU's J.J. Spaun who shot a 144 (E).

Play will continue on Tuesday with a final round of 18 holes beginning with tee times on holes No. 1 and No. 10 from 8:27-10:33 MT.

"We played better in our second round today and hopefully we can keep improving and fire a solid round tomorrow," Jensen said.
