The University of Wyoming Cowboy golf team completed their first tournament of the spring season on Wednesday playing the final 18 holes at the Pioneer Classic in Goodyear, Arizona. UW finished 14th of 15 teams in a field that saw Wichita State run away with the team title by 37 strokes over second place Northern Colorado. Wyoming shot a three round total of 890 (+26).
UW's best round on Wednesday came from freshman Dave Stewart who shot even-par 72. Wyoming's top individual finisher was redshirt junior Dan Silva who tied for 21st place of 91 golfers after a final round of 75 (+3).
Wichita State's Judd Easterling shot a 64 (-8) in the final 18 holes, winning the individual title by 13 strokes with a three round total of 195 (-21).
The Pioneer Classic was played at the Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear. Palm Valley plays to a par of 72 and measures 7,015 yards.
Each team played five golfers and counted the four best scores.
The Cowboys will next compete at the Arkansas-Little Rock Invitational, March 28-29 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
