The University of Wyoming Cowboy golf team played the third and final round of the Arizona National Invitational Tournament that was held at the par-72, 7,200-yard Catalina Course on Sunday in Tucson, Ariz. The Cowboys shot a 298 (+10) final round to finish in 14th place of the 14-team field with a total tally of 916 (+52).
“We had a solid round to begin with,” Wyoming head coach Joe Jensen said. “It was obviously a better round for us but we didn’t quite finish the way we are capable of finishing.”
Senior’s Brent Baylon and Eddie Stewart fired their best rounds of the tournament with a 73 (+1). Baylon led the Pokes with a three-round 224 (+8) and finished tied for 62nd of the 81-man field. Stewart finished the tournament tied for 70th after a three-round total of 229 (+13).
Sophomore Kamrin Allen also had his best round of the tournament Sunday. Allen carded a 74 (+2) and finished one stroke behind Stewart with a tally of 230 (+14) for 73rd place. Senior Eric Parish shot a third-round 78 (+6) and finished with a 237 (+21). Junior Cameron Lindell added an 80 (+8) to bring his total to 239 (+23). Playing as an individual, freshman Ryan Wallen saved his best round for last and finished tied 58th. Wallen shot a 73 (+1), which brought his three-round total to 223 (+7).
Taking home the team title was California who shot a three-round score of 831 (-33). Following Cal was Oklahoma State and SMU who tied for second with a score of 846 (-18). The individual medalist was Joel Stalter of Cal who finished with 205 (-11). Wyndham Clark of Oklahoma State and SMU’s Bryson Dechambeau and Harry Higgs all tied for second place after carding 208 (-8).
“All weekend we had a little bit of nerves and rust,” Jensen said. “But we were competitive and today showed progress. A lot of the guys had a quality round going, which was great to see but we still need some practice. It was a great tournament for us to go through against really good competition.”
The Cowboys return to action at the Oregon Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore., that is set to be played March 24-25.
