Pokes Pace to Fourth-Place Finish at Bob Sitton Invitational

The University of Wyoming men’s golf team paced to a fourth place finish with a three-round total of 887 (+35) at the Bob Sitton Invitational on Thursday in Dallas, Texas. Sophomore Drew McCullough carded a 71 (E) in the closing round to lead the Pokes. McCullough had the highlight of the tournament for the Cowboys with a hole-in-one off the fifth tee. He tallied a score of 218 (+5) to tie for ninth place in the 102-man field.

 “We got off to a very rough start,” Wyoming head coach Joe Jensen said. “But overall I am happy with another top-five finish. If you look at the overall scores from the tournament, everyone had big numbers. It just goes to show the difficulty of this course.”

Senior Kamrin Allen improved from his outing yesterday, carding a 72 (+1) for the last round. He moved up ten spots to tie for 24th. Junior Ryan Wallen fired a third-round score of 75 (+4) to total a 221 (+8), enough to tie him for 19th. Following Wallen, sophomore Glenn Workman notched a 76 (+5) to conclude his tournament and tie for 63rd. Sophomore Arron Lickteig rounds out the lineup for the Pokes as he carded an 82 (+11) to finish tied for 71st.

Sophomore Quintin Pope played as an individual. He shot a third-round score of 78 (+7) to tie for 63rd place.

Cody Burrows of Oral Roberts shot a 70 (-1) in the third round to take the individual title. Angelo Leyvani of Stephen F. Austin, Bradley’s Drake Bushong and Kevin Lee of Long Beach State tied for second place with scores of 215 (+2). Long Beach State took home the team title with a total of 867 (+15). Stephen F. Austin finished 11 strokes behind and came in second with a total of 878 (+26). Central Arkansas held on to a third place with a 884 (+32), beating the Pokes by three shots.

Wyoming will return to action at the 13th annual Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz., on April 4th and 5th.
