The University of Wyoming men's golf team finished the first day of the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational with a tally of 587 (+27) on the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. Wyoming shot a first round of 300 (+20) and a second of 297 (+7). The Pokes finished the day in 14th in the 14-team field. Freshman Drew McCullough leads the Cowboys with a two-round total of 140 (E). He is tied for 10th in the 78-man field.
"This is a national competition and I'm happy with the efforts of the team today," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "This team is getting better and playing more consistent with lots of room to grow still. It was great to see Kamrin and Drew come out in the second round and finish under par in this field of golfers."
McCullough led the Cowboys after shooting rounds of 72 (E) and a 68 (-2) to as he is tied for 10th place. He shot his second round of 68 (-2) for the first time since he won the individual title at the Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo. Junior Kamrin Allen followed firing his season low of 69 (-1) in the second round for a scorecard of 146 (+6), he is tied for 47th.
Freshman Glenn Workman is in 68th place after rounds of 76 (+6) and 74 (+4), ending with 150 (+10). Redshirt freshman Arron Lickteig, golfing as an individual, shot a total of 151 (+11), tying for 69th place. Freshman Quintin Pope carded two rounds of 76 (+6) for a 152 (+12). Sophomore Ryan Wallen rounded out the day tied for 74th with a 76 (+6) and a 78 (+8).
Arizona State leads the tournament after the first two rounds at 544 (-16). Arizona State's Jon Rahm and Max Rottluff are tied for first place at 129 (-11).
The Pokes will play the final round tomorrow at 6:30 a.m. MT.
