McCullough Finishes as Top UW Golfer at Cowboy Classic

The University of Wyoming men's golf team carded a score of 288 (E) during Tuesday's final round of the Cowboy Classic in Chandler, Ariz. The Pokes finished the tournament on the Whirlwind Golf Club - Cattail course with a score of 870 (+6) for UW's best three-round score this season. Wyoming ended the event in 14th place in an 18-team field. The Cowboys were led by freshman Drew McCullough, who shot a third round of 70 (-2).

"Moving the tournament to Whirlwind has been terrific," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "The golf course, staff and operations were great we are very thankful to Troon Golf, Whirlwind Golf Club and Cleveland Golf to be able to host this premium event."

McCullough finished as the top Wyoming golfer after firing a final round of 70 (-2) for a total score of 215 (-1). He tied for 33rd in the 100-man field. Sophomore Ryan Wallen was a close second finishing three strokes back with a 218 (+2) and a tied for 55th. Wallen shot rounds of 70 (-2), 75 (+3) and a 73 (+1). Freshman Glenn Workman cared a 75 (+3) for the final round placing him tied for 61st place. Junior Kamrin Allen fired a 70 (-2) for an overall tally of 220 (+4). Bringing it home was freshman Quintin Pope with a score of 231 (+15) for 92nd place.

Redshirt freshman Arron Lickteig, golfing as an individual, shot a closing round of 73 (+1) he tied for 38th place. Senior Cameron Lindell, also golfing as an individual, ended with a 240 (+24) for 100th place.

"We held our first three person playoff for the championship which was fun. I think the teams and the players it was exciting for and congratulations to Devon Purser and McNeese state for winning the team title," Jensen added.

McNeese State won the team title as it finished the tournament with a score of 838 (-26). There was a three way tie for the individual title between Weber State's Devon Purser, McNesse State's Robert MacIntyre and Idaho's Jared du Toit with a scores of 207 (-9) for the tournament. Wyoming held a playoff for the three individuals tied for first and Purser ended the event victorious.

The Cowboys return April 24 at the BYU Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah.
