LARAMIE, Wyo. -
David Hearn shot a final round 70 to tie for 11th place at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Collegiate Championship on Tuesday. Hearn's 70 tied for the second best round of the day and gave him a final score of 147. Only tournament champion Jody Moss of NE Louisiana shot a lower round on Tuesday with a 69 -- 140 for the tournament. Wyoming finished 11th out of 15 teams with a 36-hole score of 609. Host Arkansas-Little Rock won the team title, shooting a 583.
In the first round on Monday, Wyoming shot a team score of 306. The Cowboys improved by three strokes on Tuesday in the second round with a 303 to finish at 609.
The tournament was to be a 54-hole event, but the second 18-hole round on Monday afternoon was rained out.
"We had a couple players shoot good rounds each day, but we never could get four strong scores put together on the same day," said UW men's golf coach Roger Prenzlow. "David (Hearn) had a really good round on Tuesday, and Jake (Hunter) played a solid round on the second day. The guys played solid off the tee and in the fairways, but we struggled with our short games and just couldn't seem to score well.
"We're heading into the two most important tournaments of the season -- at BYU and at the WAC Championships -- so we need to patch some things up with our short games, and get ready for two big tournaments."
This year's UALR tournament was played at the Chenal Country Club in Little Rock, Ark. The course measured 7,069 yards and played to a par of 72.
