PROVO, Utah -
The University of Wyoming Cowboy golf team completed the first two rounds of the PING Cougar Classic on Monday at the Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah. Sophomore Drew McCullough is tied second with a first-day total of 137 (-7). He carded rounds of 70 (-2) and 67 (-5), respectively to lead the Pokes. As a team, UW is in third place with a score of 571 (-5).
"This is a small, but tough field," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "We know that we really didn't play all that great to begin with. The guys did a good job of staying focused and I hope we can continue that tomorrow. The field didn't have their best today, but I am proud of this team for the way they battled late today."
Quintin Pope is one shot behind McCullough and tied for fifth after two rounds. The sophomore fired an opening round 70 (-2) before closing with a 68 (-4) for a total of 138 (-6) on Monday. Junior Ryan Wallen and senior Kamrin Allen are tied for 17th place after Monday's two rounds. They each have a score of 143 (-1) with the final round remaining.
Redshirt sophomore Arron Lickteig shot a first-round 75 (+3), before a 73 (+1) in the second. His total of 148 (+4) places him tied for 39th and two shots ahead of freshman John Murdock. Murdock carded a 71 (-1) on Monday morning and then posted a 79 (+7) in the second round.
Sophomore Glenn Workman shot a first-round tally of 77 (+5) for Wyoming and closed out the day with a 78 (+6). He is sitting in 55th place.
"I am interested in how we will play tomorrow," Jensen said. "This is a good course for us to be on heading into our conference tournament. The weather was great and the greens were good today. I always enjoy coming here."
Host BYU is the team leader after two rounds. The Cougars have a total of 554 (-22), while CSU's Dominic Kieffer has a one-shot lead over McCullough and BYU's Austin Christensen with a 136 (-8). The final round of the PING Cougar Classic will begin tomorrow morning. Live results will be available on golfstat.com.
