UW Tied for Seventh after Two Rounds of MW Championship

The University of Wyoming men’s golf team shot a 290 (+2) during the second round of play at the 2016 Mountain West Championship, and now sit tied for seventh with the final round left to play. The Cowboys are tied with Air Force and Boise State with a two-day total of 580 (+4). Sophomore Drew McCullough and junior Ryan Wallen are tied for 13th to lead the Pokes, as they each have a 142 (-2) through two rounds.

“I am proud of this group for the way they are continuing to stay focused and compete,” UW head coach Joe Jensen said. “We are more than capable of putting together a great round tomorrow and then make a big move.”

Wallen tied his season low and was the lone Cowboy in the red on Saturday. He had four birdies and fired a 68 (-4) to jump 26 spots. McCullough recorded a 75 (+3), while senior Kamrin Allen shot a 73 (+1) to move his two day total to 149 (+5) and sit tied for 40th.

Redshirt sophomore Arron Lickteig is tied 33rd with the final round left, as he shot a 74 (+2) on Saturday. Sophomore Quintin Pope rounds out the lineup for UW, and is tied for 50th after a second-round score of 77 (+5). Lickteig has 147 (+3) through two rounds, while Pope has 153 (+9).

“There were only four other teams that had a better round than us today, so we are definitely digging our way back,” Jensen added.  “We understand that good things will happen if we keep our composure and work hard. These guys are doing just that and will continue to do so tomorrow.”

No. 37 New Mexico jumped into the team lead after a second-round 285 (-3), and now has a total of 565 (-11). No. 29 UNLV is two shots back, as Nevada’s Corey Eddings remained in the individual lead with a two-round total of 136 (-8).
