Cowboys In Fifth-Place After Opening Day of Gene Miranda Falcon Invite

The Wyoming golf team returned to action on Sunday at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Cowboys carded a team score of 583 (+7) in the opening two-rounds of play at the Eisenhower Golf Club- Blue Course as UW sits in fifth-place in the 15-team tournament. UW shot a score of 290 (+2) in the opening round of play and closed the first day out with a 293 (+5) in the second round.

"We had a very solid day today and we are in a very good position in a very tight race," Wyoming head coach Joe Jensen said. "I thought that we had very good composer and focus on some of the toughest greens we will play on all season."

Senior Eddie Stewart was UW's top finisher on the day with a score of 145 (+1). Stewart sits in a tie for 18th place in the 88-man field as he carded scores of 73 (+1) and 72 (-1). Senior Brent Baylon finished his day with a score of 146 (+2) as he is tied for 25th place. He recorded scores of 75 (+3) and 71 (-1). Senior Eric Parish is tied for 32nd place after finishing the day at 147 (+3). Parish shot 72 (E) in the opening round and finished his day with a 75 (+3).

Sophomore Kamrin Allen, who is coming of his first career individual title last week at the Battle in the Tetons finished his day with a score of 150 (+6). Allen fired a team-low score of 70 (-2 )in the first round, but he finished his day by carding an 80 (+8) in the second round of play as he sits in tie for 49th place. Junior Cameron Lindell finished the day at 154 (+10) after shooting scores of 79 (+7) and 75 (+3) as the newcomer is in a tie for 74th place.

The Air Force Academy, the host of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite sits in first-place after the first two rounds carding a 563 (-13). The Falcons shot an impressive 278 (-10) in the opening round of play. UTEP is in second-place as it finished the opening day of competition with a score of 575 (-1). New Mexico State sits in third-place with a score of 576 (E). Defending champion Colorado sits in fourth-place with a score of 582 (+6). Wyoming (+7) rounds out the top-five as Utah sits in sixth-place one stroke behind the Cowboys at 583 (+8).

Air Force's Kyle Westmoreland is the individual leader after the opening day as he fired a 135 (-9) as he sits two strokes ahead of teammate Matthew Dunn as he finished the opening day with a 137 (-7).

"We got to come out tomorrow and finish as it all comes down to how well you play that final round when it is as tight as it is in this tournament," Jensen said.

The Cowboys will finish up action at the Gene Miranda Falcons Invite tomorrow morning at 8:15 a.m.
