Cowboy Golf In First After Two Rounds At Home Tournament

The University of Wyoming men'sgolf team is in first place after two rounds at the Rocky MountainIntercollegiate Golf Tournament, held at Jacoby Golf Course in Laramie.

The Cowboys have a two-round total of 564, seven shots ahead of SanFrancisco. The Pokes shot identical rounds of 282 for the team lead.Wyoming senior David Hearn is the individual leader with rounds of 70and 65, giving him a 135 total. Ryan Wilson of San Francisco is insecond with a total of 136.

Wyoming received solid performances around the board, despite windyconditions throughout the day. Mike Urbatchka finished with a total of140, good for a fourth-place tie. Freshman Mike Mezei was impressive inhis first action as a Cowboy with rounds of 70 and 74. Jacob Hunter(146) and Kurt Kowaluk (147) finished strong, giving the Cowboys theteam lead.

"The guys did a great job of battling the wind," said Wyoming headcoach Roger Prenzlow. "We had chances to really shoot some good numbersand the guys really hung in there. David's second round of 65 wasreally impressive with the wind. He's a great player, but we can't rideon his back all the time.

"I'm glad there are some good teams right on our tail," said Prenzlow."That's great, it'll be a shootout. That means our guys have to comeout and play a good round."

The final round will be played on Sunday with a shotgun start scheduledat 8:15 a.m. Wyoming will be looking to defend its team title and Hearnwill try and repeat as individual champion.
