University of Wyoming seniorDavid Hearn shot a three-round total of 223 (+7) placing him tied for43rd to lead all Cowboy golfers at the William Tucker Invitational, heldat The Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
As a team the Pokes shot a combined team score of 901 (+37), to place14th in the 23 team field. Brigham Young University won the tournamentwith a 54-hole team total of 861, three under par. The Cougars edgedsecond-place UNLV by two strokes. The victory for BYU was its secondconsecutive at the Tucker Invitational.
Billy Harvey of BYU took top individual honors with a three-round totalof 207 (-9). UNLV's Calvin Kupeyan finished in second with a score of211 (-5).
UW senior Jacob Hunter and freshman Mike Mezei both finished tied for69th with a score of 227 (+11), Mike Urbatchka placed tied for 75thshooting a 228 and Kurt Kowaluk finished tied for 81st with a score of230 to round out the scoring for Wyoming.
"The guys never really seemed to get to comfortable on the greens,"said UW head coach Roger Prenzlow. "It was tough to practice for thegreens here because they are so big. We missed a lot of puts we shouldhave hit. However, they bounced back today and we played a little bitbetter than we did yesterday."
Wyoming defeated Mountain West Conference opponents Air Force, ColoradoState and Utah.
The Cowboys next will travel to Fort Collins, Colo., Sept. 25-26 forthe Colorado State Ram Invitational.
