UW in Fourth after Day One at the Ram Masters Invitational

The University of Wyoming men’s golf team finished its first day at the Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo., in fourth place shooting a 582 (+22). Senior Kamrin Allen led the way for the Cowboys as he is tied for third with a 139 (-1) with one round to go.

“We got off to a rough start,” Wyoming men’s golf head coach Joe Jensen said. “We started slowly chipping away at the lead to put us in the position that we are in now.”

Allen carded scores of 69 (-1) and 70 (E). Sophomore Drew McCullough finished the day tied for 11th at 143 (+3), as he turned in rounds of 69 (-1) and 74 (+4). Sophomore Arron Lickteig added rounds of 73 (+3) and 75 (+5), as he ended the day tied for the 36th position at 148 (+8). Sophomores Glenn Workman and Quintin Pope are tied for the 47th spot as they each shot 151 (+11). Workman ended his rounds with 76 (+6) and 75(+5), while Pope finished his day with 77 (+7) and 74 (+4). Junior Ryan Wallen rounded out the Cowboys team in 63rd place with a score of 154 (+14), carding a 75 (+5) in round one and 79 (+9) in the second.

Freshman John Murdoch, who is playing as an individual finished his day in a tie for 80th place. He turned in scores of 81 (+11) and 79 (+9) to end the rounds at 160 (+20).

Colorado State, the host of the Ram Masters Invitational, is the leader after the first day at 560 (E). Kansas follows in second place turning in a score of 561 (+1). Fresno State is in third after two rounds at 577 (+17). Wyoming follows in fourth place after a 36-hole score of 582 (+11). South Dakota State rounds out the top five at 588 (+28).

“It was a good, solid day,” Jensen added. “The golf course that we played was very difficult, which made for a tough day. Overall, I’m proud of the guys.”

Kansas’ Ben Welle is the individual leader after the first two rounds of play, as he finished the day at 134 (-6). He finished the first two rounds with scores of 67 (-3) and 67 (-3). McCullough won this tournament last year as a freshman, scoring a 210 (E).
