Pokes Finish in Fifth Place at Ram Masters Invitational

The University of Wyoming men's golf team carded a 294 (+14) during the final round of the Ram Masters Invitational on Tuesday. The Cowboys wrapped up the 15-team tournament at the Fort Collins Country Club with a score of 876 (+36) to finish in fifth place. UW carded rounds of 289 (+9) and 293 (+13) before a final round of 294 (+14). Wyoming was led by senior Kamrin Allen in the final round, as he tied the lowest score of the tournament for a Cowboy with his 69 (-1). Sophomore Drew McCullough also scored a 69 (-1) in the tournament.

“Today was tough,” Wyoming men’s golf head coach Joe Jensen said. “All in all, we had a good, solid finish.”

Allen concluded the final round with a 78 (+8). He finished the tournament with a score of 217 (+7), which tied him for 14th place in the 88-man field. Sophomore Drew McCullough wrapped up the tournament with a 75 (+5) in the third round, as he tied for 19th place at 218 (+8).

Sophomore Quintin Pope fired the lowest score of the day for the Cowboys with a 70 (E). He finished the Ram Masters Invitational with a total score of 221 (+11), and tied for 31st place. Junior Ryan Wallen and sophomore Glenn Workman rounded out Wyoming's team score. Wallen finished at 225 (+15) with Workman closing out the tournament at 229 (+19).

Sophomore Arron Lickteig and freshman John Murdock played as individuals scoring a 224 (+14) and 235 (+25), respectively.

Colorado State earned the team title at 839 (-1), as the Rams fired a 279 (-1) in the final round of play. Kansas followed in second place with a score of 849 (+9). Fresno State finished third with a score of 862 (+22). Wichita State came in fourth place with a three-round total of 873 (+33), as Wyoming rounded out the top five at 876 (+36).

“We need to tidy up our short game,” Jensen added. “In particular, putting. We just didn’t make the tough puts for par and that catches up to you.”

Kansas’ Ben Welle claimed top honors finishing at 206 (-4). Welle shot a 72 (+2) during Tuesday's final round.

The Cowboys return to action Friday and Saturday at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational in Boulder, Colo.
