Cowboys End Day One in Third Place at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational

The University of Wyoming men's golf team battled back in the second round to put UW in third place on the opening day of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational on Monday. Wyoming wrapped up the day at the Colorado National Golf Club with a score of 571 (+11). UW was tied for 11th place after the first round but battled back to third spot in the second round. The Cowboys carded rounds of 293 (+13) and 278 (-2) in the 15-team field. Senior Kamrin Allen leads the Cowboys, as he is tied for first place with a 139 (-1). He fired off rounds of 70 (E) and 69 (-1).

"I’m really proud of the way the guys played in the afternoon round," UW head coach Joe Jensen said. "Our guys are tired from a long weekend but we need to come out and play well tomorrow."

Junior Ryan Wallen is tied for fourth place as he shot rounds of 72 (+2) and 68 (-2). Sophomore Quintin Pope finished at 146 (+6) with scores of 76 (+6) and 70 (E), as he is currently tied for 33rd place. Sophomore Drew McCullough carded rounds of 77 (+7) and 71 (+1), as he ended the first day tied for 41st place at 148 (+8). Sophomore Glenn Workman rounds out the score for the Cowboys with a 151 (+11) wth rounds rounds of 75 (+5) and 76 (+6).

Sophomore Arron Lickteig and freshman John Murdock are playing as individuals for Wyoming. Lickteig wrapped up play tied for fourth with rounds of 69 (-1) and 71 (+1). Murdock also played well as he is tied for 22nd as he recorded a 144 (+4). He marked rounds of 70 (E) and 74 (+4).

UMKC sits in first place with a score of 563 (+3). Colorado, the host of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational sits in second place after the opening day at 568 (+8). Wyoming is in third place finishing at 571 (+11). Houston Baptist (+13) and Wichita State (+13) stand tied for fourth place which rounds out the top-five finishers after day one.

Allen, UMKC’s Antoine Rozner and Houston Baptist’s Val Almendarez are tied for the individual leader spot after the first day at 139 (-1). The tournament concludes with one round tomorrow at 8:45 a.m. MT.
