UW Men's Golf Competes at CSU Ram Invitational

September 29, 1998

University of Wyoming sophomore David Hearn from Brantford, Ontario, and freshman Mike Urbatchka from Sheridan, Wyo., both shot 54-hole totals of 218 -- eight over par -- to tie for 37th place at the Colorado State University Ram Invitational played at the Fort Collins Country Club on Sept. 28-29. The individual winners of the tournament were Ralph Gemoets of UTEP and Jamie Rogers of Nebraska, who tied at 204 -- six under par. The very competitive field saw Nebraska capture the team title with a three-round total of 837. Wyoming finished 14th in the 14-team field at 882.

"This team has been at all ends of the spectrum through our first three tournaments," said UW mens golf coach Roger Prenzlow. "We began the fall season winning our own tournament against a field of 17 other teams. We finished in the middle of the pack at the Air Force tournament (11th of 24 teams), and this week we were disappointed to find ourselves in a position we definitely dont want to be.

"With three sophomores and two freshmen making up our travel squad, we expect to have some ups and downs, but I know the guys are disappointed in this finish. I expect them to come out and work hard as we prepare for the remainder of our fall season. We have some challenging tournaments and some challenging fields ahead of us this fall with tournaments at Nevada, Fresno State and Stanford. This young group of guys is eager to compete, and they will have an opportunity to work on some facets of their games for the next couple of weeks before we travel to Nevada in mid-October."

The Cowboys next tournament is the Nevada Wolf Pack Invitational on Oct. 12-13 in Carson City, Nev.
