The Wyoming Cowboys hold atwo-stroke lead over North Carolina-Greensboro heading into Saturday's finalround of the St. John's University Red Storm Intercollegiate being played inFarmingdale, N.Y. Wyoming junior Jake Hunter is leading the way for theCowboys. Hunter is four-under par through 36 holes and holds a one strokelead over Andrew Svoboda of the host St. John's Red Storm.
"The guys all did a fantastic job today," said UW men's golf coachRoger Prenzlow. "We're leading the tournament by two strokes, and the guysplayed just the way we've been talking about as a team -- go out relaxed,focus on hitting a lot of greens and then try to be consistent in ourputting game.
"Jake (Hunter) played two outstanding rounds. He started out with a67 and came back with a 69 in the second round. It seems like we've had adifferent guy step up in each of our fall tournaments. It's real excitingto see him have this kind of tournament.
"It should be fun tomorrow. The guys seem real focused, butrelaxed, and I think they're excited to see if we can win a tournament onthe road."
Not far behind Hunter's four-under par score of 136 is UW sophomoreMike Urbatchka with a one-under total of 139. Junior David Hearn is at plusfive 145. Fellow junior Kevin Kayden is nine over, 149, and senior ReidLende is one stroke back of Kayden at +10, 150.
The Cowboys have had an outstanding fall season thus far, winningtheir own Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate on Sept. 7 and finishing second atthe Air Force Falcon Invitational on Sept. 19.
The St. John's Red Storm Intercollegiate is being played at theBethpage Red Course in Farmingdale, N.Y. The course measures 6,756 yardsand plays to a par of 70.
