Wyoming Cowboy Golf Team Wins New Mexico State Invitational

The Wyoming Cowboys won their secondgolf tournament of the 2000 fall season when they captured the New MexicoState Invitational on Saturday. UW shot a 54-hole total of 862 to defeatArkansas-Little Rock by one stroke. Wyoming was led by junior MikeUrbatchka, who placed third with a three-under par total of 213. UW seniorDavid Hearn placed fifth with a two-under total of 214.

"Mike (Urbatchka) and David (Hearn) played very good golf thisweek," said UW men's golf coach Roger Prenzlow. "They made a lot of shots,and played consistently throughout the two days.

"All in all, everyone on our team played well. We made birdies whenwe needed to, and did everything we've been talking about and practicing.It's sure good to see everyone with a smile on their face as we get ready totravel home. This is a big win for our program."

In addition to Urbatchka and Hearn, senior Jake Hunter placed 17thwith a 218, two-over par. Freshman Mike Mezei was one stroke back of Hunterat 219 to place 25th, and redshirt sophomore Kurt Kowaluk shot a 228 tofinish 56th in the field of 89 golfers.

This week's tournament was played on the University Golf Course inLas Cruces, N.M. The course played to a par of 72 and measured 7017 yards.

The Cowboys captured their own Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate onSept. 10, 2000, for their first tournament win of the fall. Wyoming now hastwo tournament victories in four fall tournaments this season.

Wyoming concludes the 2000 fall schedule on Oct. 27-29 at theStanford Nelson Classic in Palo Alto, Calif.
