The Wyoming Cowboy golfers moved up one spot on Tuesday to place 17th of 19 teams at the Nevada Wolf Pack Classic in Reno. Wyoming shot a final round score of 306 (+18) at the Wolf Run Golf Club and totaled 915 (+51) for the 54-hole event.
UW recorded rounds of 306 and 303 (+15) on Monday.
Taking the leadership role once again for the Cowboys was freshman Gabe Maier, who shot a final round 74 (+2), to finish in a tie for 22nd place out of 100 individuals after three rounds at 218 (+2). Maier scored 71 and 73 during the first two rounds. He has had Wyoming's best finish in four of five events this season.
UW redshirt freshman Aaron Johnson helped the team by shooting a score of 74 (+2) in the final round.
"This was a rough trip," said Cowboy head coach Joe Jensen. "Our youth showed at this tournament and we struggled with mental mistakes. Gabe played well and was a positive for us. He played calm and mature golf."
Arizona won the team title by 16 strokes over defending champion Iowa State. The Wildcats finished at 850 (-14), while the Cyclones were at 866.
Arizona's Tyler Neal earned individual medalist honors at 210 (-6).
The Cowboys will return to action Oct. 22-23 at the SDSU Barona Classic in San Diego, Calif.
