SAN DIEGO, Calif. -
Ending a difficult fall campaign, the University of Wyoming men's golf team shot a final round score of 300 (+12) on Tuesday at the Barona Collegiate Cup in San Diego, Calif. The Cowboys finished the event in 17th place of 18 teams with their total of 899 (+35).
The University of Alabama-Birmingham caught day one leader Wichita State and took the top team trophy at 840 (-24). Zack Sucher of UAB (203, -13) defeated Taylor Coffman of Nevada on the second playoff hole for the individual title.
"It's not complicated," said Wyoming head coach Joe Jensen. "We just need to play like we're capable. We need to play consistently. Every position on this team is about three to four strokes short right now. With a lot of new faces, we did get some good experience this fall, but maybe this break is coming at a good time for us."
The `Pokes best finish of the tournament came from junior Zac Fisher, who tied for 45th place of 100 golfers with a total of 220 (+4). Next for Wyoming were seniors Jeff Franks and Niel King at 224 (+8).
The 54-hole tournament was played at the Barona Creek GC, par 72 and measuring 7,315 yards.
The Cowboys have concluded their fall season and will have the winter off until they travel to the Rice Intercollegiate, Feb. 17-18, 2007 in Missouri City, Texas.
