University of Wyoming Director of Men's and Women's Golf Joe Jensen announced today that Matthew Rubis, of Fargo, North Dakota, has signed a national letter of intent to play golf for the Cowboys. Rubis, 6'0" and 155 pounds, graduated from Fargo South High School in 2005.
As a senior he was the North Dakota Senior Athlete of the Year, as well as the Individual State Champion. He was part of a three state championship teams and was a two-time individual conference champion. During his junior and senior years he was team captain and had the lowest stroke average on his high school squad. An excellent student he was on the Honor Roll and lettered in golf all four years. .
"I believe that Matt Rubis will put in the effort and has the work ethic to become a good college player at the University of Wyoming," Jensen said. "He has experience playing at a high level and on teams that have produced multiple collegiate golfers. As a solid golfer, a good student, and a hard worker Matt will fit in well with what we have going in the Cowboy program."
Born May 22, 1986, he is the son of Timothy and Linda Rubis. He has three older sisters, Kelly, Jan, and Heidi. He plans to major in Business.
Rubis will join the Cowboy golf team in the fall of 2006 as a freshman. He was coached in high school by Steve Kennedy. Other schools that recruited him were Minnesota and Drake University.
