Wyoming Cowboys to Host Third Annual UW/Cleveland Golf Cowboy Classic

April 7, 2005

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming men's golf team will host the third annual UW Cleveland Golf Cowboy Classic on Monday and Tuesday, April 11-12 at the Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. The tournament will play 54 holes, 36 on the first day and 18 on day two.

"Our goal is to create a good college event, that attracts quality competition and exposes our program at a national level," said UW head coach Joe Jensen. "I am excited about the quality of the field this year and how this tournament has progressed in just three years. We now have more teams that want to compete than I have room for.

"We also have a corporate sponsor this year and I would like to thank Cleveland Golf for including us in their college series.

"Our team is starting to get the feel of things and we are playing more consistent. We are working hard to eliminate the big numbers. This is a golf course that we've seen, played and we're comfortable with it."

In just its third year, the Wyoming Cowboy Classic has grown from 11, to 18, to 20 teams. The tournament field for the 2005 Wyoming Cowboy Classic is listed below.

This year's tournament will once again be played at the North Course at Talking Stick. For the fourth consecutive year the North Course has been named by Golfweek magazine as either the first or second ranked public course in the state of Arizona.

The Talking Stick Golf Club was designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. It is located in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community at 9998 East Indian Bend Road in Scottsdale.

Talking Stick opened in January of 1998. Since its opening, it has hosted the PGA Tour Qualifying School in 1998 and `99, and the USGA Sectional Qualifier in `98 and 2002 among numerous other events. The North Course has been the host course for the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in April of 2003, 2004 and 2005.
