Wyoming Wrestling Signs Preston Pavich of South Dakota

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

University of Wyoming head wrestlingcoach Steven Suder announced Friday the signing of Preston Pavich ofSpearfish, S.D., to a national letter of intent.

Pavich was a two-time South Dakota All-State performer, placingsecond in the 189 pound weight class his junior year and fourth hissenior season at Spearfish High School. He produced 30 win seasons hissophomore and junior seasons and a 43-4 record his senior campaign. Heended his high school career with 132 victories. During his wrestlingcareer, Pavich has placed 1st at the Rocky Mountain Nationals and alsowon a South Dakota Freestyle Championship.

"My trip to Laramie went really well," said Pavich. "I wasimpressed with how much emphasis is placed on academics, and how thedepartment provides such support. I meet coach Suder a year ago andliked what he stood for."

Pavich is a member of the Spearfish Honor Roll and plans on majoringin business while attending Wyoming. He is the son of Frank andBlendia Pavich of Spearfish.

"Preston put himself in the position, over the last couple ofyears, to be ready to make this step," said UW head wrestling coachSteven Suder. "His coach, Paul Soriano, wrestled here at UW andknows what it takes to be a Division I wrestler. Preston comes from agreat support system and is ready to step into another one."
