July 21, 2011

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Wyoming Cowboy sophomore golfer Eddie Stewart shot a final round 68 (-4) to win the 2011 Wyoming Amateur Golf Championship on July 15-17. Fellow Cowboys Clinton Boutelle and Casey Ruff finished the tournament in second and third, respectively.

The Wyoming Amateur Championship was played at The Golf Club at Devils Tower in Hulett, Wyo., which played 6,936 yards and a par 72.

"I am very happy for Eddie," Wyoming Director of Golf Joe Jensen said. "We are very excited for him to shoot 10-under par for the tournament. It is impressive that he was able to hold off Clinton because we all know what a solid college player Clinton is. I am really pleased that our guys finished one-two-three. For those three to compete well gives us a good solid foundation for next year."

Stewart took home the individual championship, shooting a three-round total of 206 (-10). Stewart shot an even par 72 in the first round, but was then able to rattle off a six-under par 66 in the second round and a four-under 68 in the final round. Boutelle finished second with a three round score of 210 (-6). After holding the first-round lead, Cowboy Casey Ruff finished in third place with a final tournament score of 215 (-1). Also competing for the Cowboys were Eric Parish, who finished in fifth place with a final score of 222 (+6); Michael May, who tied for ninth with a final tally of 232 (+16) and Jake Hedge who tied for 13th place with a three-round total of 238 (+22).

"Overall everyone played really well," Jensen added. "This was a very good representation for our team and our Cowboy golf program."
