LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming men's golf team tees off with its first tournament of the season in Victor, Idaho, Monday and Tuesday. The Cowboys will play two rounds on Monday and one round on Tuesday.
Junior Kamrin Allen was the individual champion of this tournament last year finishing at 210for six-under par for the tournament. Previous Eddie Stewart won the individual title in 2012 to mark the first time in Cowboy history that teammates won the same tournament back-to-years. The Cowboys have won the team title at this tournament the past two years.
"We like this first tournament because it's a nice starting point that is local and we have a training camp in Jackson before to get to know one another more," head golf coach Joe Jensen. "I think with a young group that this will be a great team bonding experience and help shake out the nerves to see what these new guys will do for us."
A Glance back: Allen's winning performance was complemented by sophomore Cameron Lindell finished 14th for the Cowboys at 220. UW won the tournament with an 875 (-7), while Utah Valley finished at 862 (-2) in second place.
The Cowboys have three returners sophomore Ryan Wallen, Allen and Lindell. They will be joined by five freshmen Arron Lickteig, Drew McCullough, Quintin Pope, Glenn Workman and Colby Bundy for their first tournament as Cowboys.
