CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -
The University of Wyoming wrestling team closed out action at the Southern Scuffle on Saturday in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Cowboys finished the 28-team tournament in 21st place. Junior Benjamin Stroh picked up the only win for the Cowboys on Saturday in the consolation bracket.
Stroh was trailing in his first match of the day against Sean Mappes of Chattanooga. Stroh came back to rally and earn a pin at the 6:22 mark to move on to the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket at 174 pounds. Stroh closed out his day falling to Christian Brucki of Central Michigan by decision 12-5.
Sophomore Bryce Meredith earned a spot in the 141-pound quarterfinals after a strong showing on Friday. He fell in quarterfinal action to 11th-ranked Tommy Thorn of Minnesota by decision 7-6. He finished the tournament falling to Jared Prince in the consolation bracket by decision 16-10.
Sophomore Archie Colgan also found himself in Saturday's quarterfinals at 157 pounds. He fell to 10th-ranked Mitch Minotti of Lehigh by pin. Colgan then faced No. 14 Russell Parsons of Army coming up short in the match by decision at 3-1 in sudden victory.
Juniors Drew Templeman and Cole Mendenhall along with sophomores Kyle Pope and Luke Paine went 0-1 on the day in the consolation bracket. Templeman had a tough draw in his match falling last season's NCAA runner-up and No. 12 Zeke Moisey of West Virginia by decision 5-2.
The Cowboys return to dual action next Saturday with a 7 p.m. dual with No. 12 Oklahoma in the UniWyo Sports Complex.
