Behind strong performances fromCorey Hamrick and Steven Schenk, the University of Wyoming wrestlingteam defeated Northern Colorado 29-9 in Laramie.
After falling behind 3-0, the Cowboys came back to win the next twomatches for a 9-3 lead. At 133 pounds, senior Corey Hamrick defeatedLevi Evans by technical fall 21-5. UW senior Shay Wyman saw his firstdual action of the year against UNC and earned a 18-10 victory at 141.
Northern Colorado closed to within 12-9, but Steven Schenk defeatedBrian Carlucci 20-3, giving the Pokes a 17-9 lead. Brian Wood, DaveSchenk and Craig Rumsey all wrestled their way to victories. In thelast match of the night, freshman heavyweight Brad Steele won byforfeit.
"I think it was really a workmanlike effort on our part," said StevenSuder, head wrestling coach. "It's really what we've been talking aboutall week. We've got a job to do, and just go out there and do it. Forthe most part, I think we did it.
"You saw a little bit of inexperience in us out there tonight," saidSuder. "We've got to learn how to win some of those matches, and wewill."
